Formed in August 2017, by Andrew Haney and Kit Tincher, Nickel Road Operating LLC is a Denver-based oil and gas acquisition and development company focused in the DJ Basin. Nickel Road is led by Co-Presidents Andrew Haney and Dana Johnson, and Vice President of Development and Geology Kit Tincher.
Nickel Road is focused on value creation through horizontal drilling programs, organic leasing, and bolt-on acquisitions in the Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin in Colorado. Nickel Road's operations include development, production, and marketing of crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids (“NGLs”).
Nickel Road is backed by Vortus Investments.
Mr. Haney is Co-President and a partner in Nickel Road Operating LLC. He has over 17 years of experience in technical and leadership roles, asset management, and field optimization. Prior to joining Nickel Road, Mr. Haney was Vice President of Development for Ursa Operating Company, beginning in 2012. He employed a growth strategy across the organization that leveraged technical innovation to create commercial value. Previously he served as Senior Staff Reservoir Engineer - Business Development for Pioneer Natural Resources USA in 2012. Prior to joining Pioneer, Mr. Haney was a Reservoir Engineer, Completions Engineer, and Asset Team Black Belt (LEAN Six Sigma) for Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. from 2005 until 2012. He began his career with Shell Exploration & Production Company as a Reservoir Engineer in 2001.
Mr. Haney received a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering with Honors from Colorado School of Mines in 2001 and a M.S. in Global Energy Management in 2010. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Mr. Johnson is Co-President and a partner in Nickel Road Operating LLC. He is a seasoned E&P executive with 36 years of experience in leadership, technical, operational, and business development roles in the industry. He has extensive experience leading and growing large appraisal and development drilling programs, and oil and natural gas resource play expertise in fractured shales, tight sands and CBM. Prior to joining Nickel Road, Mr. Johnson was Chief Operating Officer of Ursa Operating Company where he led all execution aspects for the company. Previously, he served as President of U.S. Operations for Enerplus Resources from 2008 to 2012. Prior to joining Enerplus, Mr. Johnson served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Quicksilver Resources Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Quicksilver Resources Inc. from 2005 to 2008. Prior to leading these independent E&P entities, Mr. Johnson spent over 21 years with Shell Exploration & Production Company in a variety of managerial, business development and engineering roles.
Mr. Johnson received a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University and an MBA from the University of Houston. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Mr. Tincher is Vice President of Development and Geology and a partner in Nickel Road Operating LLC. He brings 13 years of geological experience in the oil and gas industry, with exploration and early development experience in several plays, including the Piceance Basin, DJ Basin, Big Horn Basin, Uinta Basin, Powder River Basin, Deep Bossier, Marcellus, and Columbia River sub-basalt plays. Prior to joining Nickel Road Operating LLC, he was Development Manager and Exploration Manager for Ursa Operating Company from 2013 to 2017. Prior to Ursa Operating Company, Mr. Tincher was an Exploration Geologist for Newfield Exploration Company from 2012 to 2013. Mr. Tincher began his career in 2005 as a Geologist at Encana Oil & Gas USA (Inc), where he was an integral part of the New Ventures Team working on the discovery/early development of the Haynesville Shale and the Piceance Basin Niobrara Shale.
Mr. Tincher received a B.S. in Geology and M.S. in Geology with Honors from the University of Kansas. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists.
Mr. Brugeman is Operations Manager for Nickel Road Operating LLC. He is a geologic engineer with nearly 20 years of petroleum and natural gas storage, production, and operations experience, spanning basins and formations across the United States and Canada. Prior to joining Nickel Road, Mr. Brugeman was a Senior Petroleum Engineer for Extraction Oil & Gas Inc. beginning in 2016. Previously, he served as a Senior Operations Engineer for Bayswater Exploration & Production LLC from 2012 until 2016. Prior to joining Bayswater, he was a Production Engineer for Noble Energy starting in 2007. Mr. Brugeman held gas storage roles at El Paso Corp from 2005 to 2007 and Duke Energy from 2001 to 2005. He began his career at Semco Energy in 2000 as a Geological Engineer.
Mr. Brugeman received a B.S. Geological Engineering and a Masters of Engineering from Michigan Technological University.
